CALL FOR PAPERS
Information Governance across Europe
The DLM Forum and the Croatian State Archives calls for proposals for papers to be presented at the Autumn Members’ Meeting. The meeting will be held on the 15th and 16th of November 2012 at the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb, Croatia.
Theme
The theme of the meeting will be, Information Governance across Europe. Before submitting a paper members are invited to read the DLM Forum’s Information Governance vision paper that was adopted at the spring AGM. You can download the vision document here.
Objectives
Topics may be related to any of the following:
- Defining Information Governance;
- Principles of successful Information Governance;
- Identifying and measuring the value of Information Governance;
- Creating and applying Information Governance policies and strategies;
- The challenges and benefits of Information Governance to archives and public bodies;
- The role of records management and other information management disciplines in Information Governance;
- Achieving successful Information Governance across Europe; • Information Governance and MoReq2010;
- Future Information Governance standards and specifications; and
- Case studies and experiences in Information Governance at the European, national and international level.
Call for papers
The conditions for making a submission are available in the full call for papers which may be downloaded from here in PDF format, with the Application Form (only) also separately available in Microsoft Word format. The deadline for submitting papers is 30th September 2012. |

Presentations from Copenhagen now available
 The presentations from the recent DLM Forum spring AGM and members' meeting are now available from our website.
The highly successful meeting was held over two days from the 31st May to the 1st June 2012 at the Royal Library in Copenhagen, Denmark on the theme, "Common Challenges - Different strategies?".
A diverse group of speakers presented on a wide range of topics including digital continuity, data protection and digital preservation, document management systems, interoperability, information governance and, of course, MoReq2010 and the launch of the new MoReq Governance Board.
Their presentations may be downloaded from here in PDF format. The speakers have agreed to make them available for your private use, please respect their rights.
Also now available are the formal minutes from the DLM Forum Foundation's 2012 Annual General Meeting held in Copenhagen. The minutes of the 2012 AGM may be downloaded from here.

New Accessibility Resources
 Although the new MoReq Governance Board will not officially come into existance until the 1st July, the Accessibility Panel has already published two new resources to assist in bringing MoReq2010 to a wider audience.
The MoReq2010 Executive Summary is a short four page document that introduces the MoReq2010 specification and describes the principles of records management. The Executive Summary was originally produced for the conference packs distributed at the DLM Forum Triennal Conference in Brussels last November, and is currently available in English. Translations into other languages will be available shortly.
The MoReq2010 Multilingual Glossary of Key Terms takes the 150 most significant terms used in the Modular Requirments for Records Systems and provides a comparative translation into different languages. Currently the Multilingual Glossary supports English, Romanian and Portuguese with more languages coming soon.
Both the MoReq2010 Executive Summary and the MoReq2010 Multilingual Glossary of Key Terms are available for download in PDF format from the new Accessibility Resources downloads page.

DLM Forum Certifies First MoReq2010 Course
An important announcement from the Copenhagen Members' Meeting last week was the certification of the first courseware for MoReq2010.
Earlier in the year the DLM Forum invited the trainers, consultants and educational institutions among its members to create and submit their MoReq2010 courses to the DLM Forum for certification. The certification process allows the DLM Forum to ensure that the very highest quality courses and workshops are available and accessible by everyone who wants to discover MoReq2010, regardless of their background.
 Courses and workshops may be structured for consumer organisations, end users, industry experts, practitioners, students, archives, suppliers, business managers, IT managers, financial and compliance officers, etc. From the trainers' perspective, certified courses are granted permission to use DLM Forum trademarks and certified logos.
As courses are certified they will appear here.
The first course was certified in May and is a new future-focussed workshop entitled "Information Governance and MoReq2010" from Strategy Partners. This workshop is available in variants for:
- National Archives and Government Bodies
- Archivists, Records Managers and IT Staff
- Compliance Officers and Business Managers
The Information Governance and MoReq2010 course is being run in June and July in conjunction with the Information and Records Managment Society (IRMS) in the United Kingdom; so in only a few days there will start to appear European graduates of DLM Forum certified courses able to further educate their organisations about MoReq2010 and its innovative architecture, including close integration with business systems, flexibility and modularity, interoperability, standardised XML data schema, and compliance through the associated accreditation, certification and testing programme.
Alongside its courseware certification process, the DLM Forum is also working towards a MoReq2010 accreditation programme for trainers, consultants and educational institutions, similar to the accreditation process for MoReq2010 test centres. Accreditation will allow educators to include elements of MoReq2010 in all their courseware without necessitating the certification of each course individually. The development of an educational accreditation programme will be one of the first topics for discussion put before the newly formed Practice Panel of the MoReq Governance Board. |

Growing DLM Forum Appoints John Leigh as First Managing Director of the European Commission-sponsored Foundation
6th June 2012, Copenhagen, Denmark – As announced at the DLM Forum meeting in Copenhagen this week, John Leigh will take up the position of Managing Director of the DLM Forum Foundation effective from the 1st July 2012. John is one of Europe’s most experienced and capable executives. He was formerly Group Vice President, EMEA, for Gartner Executive Programs. John’s new role will focus on expanding the membership base of the DLM Forum, and extending its influence in Information Governance across both the public and private sectors in Europe and beyond. He will also be responsible for the day-to-day running of the DLM Forum and overseeing its widening range of activities and projects.
“We are delighted to have found a candidate with the expertise and authority that John will bring to the position of Managing Director,” said Eric Ketelaar, the incoming Chair of the DLM Forum, “John’s experience in leading and growing subscription and member services businesses will prove invaluable. His mission is to ensure that the DLM Forum continues to grow successfully as the leading European centre for events, networking, standards and guidelines in Information Governance.”
The DLM Forum is a pan-European subscription-based community of public archives and parties interested in Information Governance. It is a not-for-profit foundation that was created through an initiative of the European Commission in 1994 with support from the national archives of European Union member states. Its current members include both public and private archives, government bodies, universities and research institutes, suppliers, end users, consultants, regulators and associations from across Europe and beyond.
The DLM Forum sets international standards and guidelines for Information Governance including in digital archiving and electronic records management. The Forum recently developed and published MoReq2010, the first of a new generation of purchasing specifications that delivers Information Governance to users in all government and commercial organisations and provides technical and implementation guidance for vendors across Europe.
“I am delighted to step up to this newly created position. At the Copenhagen AGM the forum’s members have adopted an expansive and future-focussed vision for Information Governance. This is what drew me to the job,” stated John Leigh who will become the first Managing Director in the foundation’s history, “The DLM Forum is well known for its authoritative contributions to European industry and government. Its latest contribution is the innovative MoReq2010 standard. I look forward to helping to take the foundation to the next level.”
As part of its new programmes and directions revealed in Copenhagen, the DLM Forum will be launching a series of Information Governance events starting later in Autumn 2012, and will be establishing new European projects, initiatives and services for its members and subscribers.

Croatian translation of MoReq2010 is first to be published
Among the many announcements at the DLM Forum members’ meeting in Copenhagen this week was news that the first completed and validated translation of MoReq2010 is now available.
 This is the Croatian language version of the specification which is now available for download from the MoReq2010 translation downloads page.
Congratulations are due to the project team in Croatia that has undertaken the translation work which also includes the full information model and plug-in modules, as well as the functional and non-functional requirements.
The DLM Forum is delighted to confirm that the Croatian translation has been independently validated against the MoReq2010 specification.
The announcement of the publication of the Croatian translation of MoReq2010 is particularly fitting as the next DLM Forum members’ meeting will be held in Zagreb on November 15th and 16th, 2012.
Also announced at the meeting, a Hungarian translation of MoReq2010 has been completed and is awaiting validation and further translations are expected this year in Portuguese, Romanian and Finnish.
